The smart home is moving beyond voice commands and app-controlled appliances. At IFA 2026 in Berlin, LG Electronics is demonstrating an AI Home ecosystem designed to interpret routines, household conditions and user intent, then coordinate appliances and connected services around them. The centerpiece is ThinQ Claw, a text-based AI agent integrated with LG ThinQ ON that points toward a more autonomous model of consumer AI.
For years, the connected-home pitch has been relatively simple: put appliances online, connect them to an app and let users control them remotely.
LG Electronics is pushing that model further.
At IFA 2026, the company is showcasing an expanded LG AI Home ecosystem in which connected appliances, home services, energy systems and AI agents are intended to work together based on context rather than individual commands.
The centerpiece is ThinQ Claw, a text-chat-based AI agent making its public debut at the Berlin technology show. Integrated with LG ThinQ ON, the system is designed to understand natural-language requests alongside information about household routines, preferences and conditions. LG says it can recommend or initiate relevant actions across connected devices and services.
That distinction is important because the next phase of smart-home technology is increasingly about orchestration.
Instead of asking a user to create a sequence such as “turn off the lights, adjust the thermostat and pause the appliances when I leave,” an AI agent could potentially infer those actions from a calendar event or conversational request.
LG’s own demonstrations illustrate the approach. ThinQ Claw can use contextual information to recommend cooking-related actions, monitor indoor air conditions, or respond to travel plans by suggesting changes to connected devices. The system is also designed to remember user preferences over time.
The technology places LG into a rapidly expanding market for consumer-facing AI agents.
Gartner estimates that spending on AI models and platforms will reach $64 billion in 2026, up 63.4% from 2025. More broadly, the research firm expects stand-alone AI agents and assistants across consumer and enterprise markets to grow substantially through the end of the decade.
For device manufacturers, that creates a strategic question: should AI remain a feature inside individual products, or become a software layer that coordinates an entire environment?
LG is clearly pursuing the second option.
At the center of its architecture is ThinQ ON, which serves as the AI home hub alongside the ThinQ platform. The company is using its IFA booth to demonstrate connected refrigerators, washing machines, HVAC equipment, televisions and robotics as components of a larger ecosystem rather than isolated smart products.
The approach also extends beyond consumer homes.
LG is presenting ThinQ Pro, a B2B management solution for multi-family residential and commercial environments. The platform is designed to centralize management and monitoring of appliances and HVAC systems, effectively applying the company’s connected-AI approach to shared and professional spaces. LG says IFA 2026 marks the European debut of ThinQ Pro.
Energy management is another part of the strategy.
LG is demonstrating a Home Energy Management System (HEMS) built around Homey, the smart-home platform developed by Athom, which LG acquired in 2024. The system can coordinate energy generation, storage and consumption by connecting equipment such as solar panels, batteries, EV chargers, smart meters and household appliances.
That gives the AI Home proposition a practical enterprise and sustainability angle. Rather than simply automating convenience functions, an intelligent home platform can potentially optimize when energy-intensive devices operate based on availability, storage and pricing conditions.
Security will become increasingly important as these systems become more autonomous.
LG says its LG Shield security framework is applied across the AI Home ecosystem to protect connected appliances, services and customer data. That is particularly relevant as AI agents gain permission to interact with physical devices and third-party services.
Gartner has warned that custom-built AI agents introduce new attack surfaces requiring security practices adapted to AI-agent development and runtime environments.
The competitive landscape is already crowded.
Amazon has Alexa and its broader smart-home ecosystem. Google has Gemini increasingly integrated into its consumer ecosystem and Google Home strategy. Apple continues to build its Home platform around Siri, devices and the Matter smart-home standard, while Samsung has been developing AI-driven connected-home experiences through SmartThings.
LG’s differentiator is its unusually broad hardware footprint.
A company that controls appliances, televisions, HVAC equipment and robotics can potentially make AI orchestration more tangible because the agent has physical systems to operate. LG is also positioning CLOiD, its home-focused autonomous robot, as part of this longer-term vision. The company previously described its AI Home architecture as combining AI appliances, ThinQ orchestration and autonomous home robots.
At IFA, that concept is represented visually through the LG AI Orchestra, a 16-by-4-meter kinetic LED installation featuring CLOiD as the “conductor” of a connected ecosystem spanning appliances, TVs, HVAC and robotics.
The company’s broader booth also includes its Fit & Max appliance strategy, high-efficiency products, LG OLED evo AI televisions, the premium LG SIGNATURE range and an UltraGear gaming monitor supporting a 1,000Hz refresh rate.
Those products may appear separate from the AI-agent story, but they serve a larger strategic purpose: LG is trying to make its AI layer relevant across as many parts of the consumer’s environment as possible.
That is where the smart-home market could become more interesting.
The value of an AI home platform will not ultimately be determined by how naturally it can answer a question. It will depend on whether it can reliably understand context, coordinate devices, respect user preferences, protect data and produce useful outcomes without creating more complexity.
LG’s IFA 2026 showcase suggests the company sees the next generation of smart homes as less like collections of connected gadgets and more like AI-managed environments.
Whether consumers will trust those environments to make decisions on their behalf remains the bigger question.
Market Landscape
The smart-home market is shifting from device connectivity toward AI orchestration.
Amazon, Google, Apple and Samsung are all developing ecosystems in which AI assistants can interact with multiple devices and services. The emerging battleground is increasingly the intelligence layer connecting those products rather than the individual appliance.

The next challenge is trust.
AI agents that can operate physical devices have more consequential permissions than conventional chatbots. Security, identity, privacy, explainability and user control will therefore become important differentiators alongside model quality.
Gartner’s 2026 research puts the broader opportunity into perspective: worldwide AI spending is forecast to reach $2.59 trillion in 2026, with AI infrastructure—including processing hardware, servers and network infrastructure—accounting for more than 45% of spending.
