Globe Telecom, one of the leading telecommunications providers in the Philippines with over 60 million subscribers, has announced a collaboration with Nokia to enhance security for banks and enterprises through network Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
Globe Telecom, which already utilizes Nokia’s 5G RAN solutions, is now testing Nokia’s Network Exposure Platform (NEP) to expand and simplify API availability. This will enable the creation of security-focused applications that protect enterprises from cyber threats and fraudulent transactions. APIs provide access to deep network functionality, allowing application developers to leverage these capabilities for enhanced security use cases.
Strengthening Security for Banks and Enterprises
As cyberattacks on banking services continue to rise, Globe Telecom is taking proactive steps to offer cutting-edge, network-powered security solutions to its enterprise customers.
“With cyberattacks on banking services accelerating, it is crucial that we make available the latest network-powered technologies to our enterprise customers and help them safeguard against fraud. We are now at the stage of testing how Nokia’s NEP can support our customers in the banking and enterprise sectors with security verification tools to prevent fraudulent transactions,” said Joel Agustin, Globe’s Head of Service Planning and Engineering.
Nokia NEP is an implementation of the GSMA Operator Platform, a standardized framework designed to expose operator capabilities to developers. Through this initiative, Globe Telecom and Nokia actively contribute to GSMA Open Gateway and Linux Foundation CAMARA, both of which promote the harmonization of operator-driven API standards worldwide.
Expanding Nokia’s API Ecosystem
Nokia NEP complements Nokia’s Network as Code platform, which provides a cloud-based developer portal for integrating and monetizing service provider networks. Launched in September 2023, Nokia’s Network as Code ecosystem has grown to 48 partners, including major telecom operators such as BT, Orange, StarHub, Telefónica, and Telecom Argentina. Nokia also collaborates with hyperscalers like Google Cloud, CPaaS providers like Infobip, and global system integrators such as Global Logic.
“We are very pleased to work with Globe Telecom, along with our growing developer community, in the building of new applications that strengthen security for financial service providers in the Philippines. Nokia NEP will help Globe Telecom organize, control, and secure the way its network is integrated into developer ecosystems and platforms, ensuring choice, flexibility, and security in creating new application use cases,” said Shkumbin Hamiti, Head of Network Monetization Platform, Cloud and Network Services at Nokia.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward advancing API-driven security solutions, ensuring that enterprises in the Philippines have access to robust, network-powered protections against emerging cyber threats.
