Soracom, Inc., a global leader in IoT platform services with full MVNO capabilities, has partnered with Marubeni Corporation, a prominent Japanese trading company, to establish a joint venture aimed at expanding IoT MVNO services in Japan and internationally. The new company will combine the strengths of Soracom’s cloud-native IoT connectivity platform and Marubeni Network Solutions Corporation’s Full MVNO operations, unlocking new opportunities across industries and regions.
Building on Full MVNO Expertise and Multi-Carrier Networks
The joint venture will take over the MVNO business from Marubeni Network Solutions, one of Japan’s few Full MVNO operators, which utilizes NTT Docomo’s network. Soracom, operating across 185 countries using KDDI and global networks, brings its expertise as a Full MVNO specializing in IoT communication services and its proprietary Connectivity Management Platform (CMP).
Together, the companies will enhance mobile services by providing high-quality, multi-carrier IoT communication tailored for diverse environments. This collaboration leverages their combined capabilities to offer seamless connectivity solutions, optimized for the evolving demands of IoT deployments.
Innovating with Next-Gen SIM Technologies and Security
The joint venture plans to support emerging SIM technologies such as next-generation SIM and iSIM, incorporating these into secure, flexible service models. The companies are also exploring integration of SIM technology with Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) frameworks to deliver unified network and security functions, particularly benefiting mobile and remote workers.
Further innovation is underway to develop multi-carrier SIM profiles, enabling users to access multiple domestic operator networks via a single SIM — a significant step toward simplifying connectivity management for IoT devices
Expanding IoT Capabilities Across Industries and Regions
By leveraging Marubeni Group’s extensive assets—including DX consulting and data analytics—the joint venture aims to address the varied needs of customers across sectors such as mobility, agriculture, electricity, and water management. This strategic collaboration is designed to accelerate IoT adoption and digital transformation on a broader scale.
This joint venture builds on the global cooperation agreement signed by Soracom and Marubeni in February 2025 and signals their commitment to expanding IoT infrastructure and services worldwide.
Soracom and Marubeni’s joint venture represents a major milestone in the IoT connectivity landscape. By combining advanced MVNO capabilities, next-gen SIM technology, and multi-industry expertise, the partnership is poised to deliver cutting-edge IoT solutions that support the rapidly evolving digital economy.
