RevEng.ai Raises $4.15M to Redefine Software Supply Chain Security with AI—No Source Code Required
RevEng.ai, a deep-tech startup revolutionizing cybersecurity, has closed a $4.15 million seed funding round led by Sands Capital, with backing from In-Q-Tel Capital, IQ Capital, and Episode 1. The company is on a mission to protect software supply chains by identifying hidden vulnerabilities and malicious components without requiring source code access.
As the world reels from escalating cyberattacks—costing organizations $11.9 trillion annually—RevEng.ai is tackling one of the hardest problems in security: understanding what’s inside software when the source is inaccessible.
Solving the Black Box Problem in Cybersecurity
From desktop apps to mobile platforms, 45% of organizations are expected to experience software supply chain attacks. The rising threat is compounded by:
- Increased use of AI-generated code
- Heavy reliance on open-source dependencies
- Weak visibility into third-party components
RevEng.ai flips the script by offering an AI Binary Analysis Platform capable of deconstructing binaries to:
- Identify hidden backdoors
- Detect zero-day vulnerabilities
- Uncover malicious payloads
—all without needing source code.
“Our goal is to simplify and automate the analysis of released software,” said James Patrick-Evans, CEO and Founder.
“This funding gives us the capital to develop the world’s first foundation AI models specifically built to analyze software packages.”
Why This Matters
Malware analysis and binary inspection have traditionally been labor-intensive, slow, and limited to specialists. RevEng.ai’s platform introduces automation, scalability, and real-time insights into an industry desperate for better tooling.
With software becoming increasingly opaque, RevEng.ai makes the invisible visible, empowering security engineers and analysts to verify the integrity of software running across devices, networks, and industries—from consumer apps to critical infrastructure.
Strategic Backing from Cyber and National Security Leaders
This seed round comes on the heels of RevEng.ai’s successful completion of two elite accelerator programs:
- NCSC for Startups (UK’s National Cyber Security Centre): Provided strategic validation and advanced threat modeling resources.
- Intel Ignite 2024 Cohort: Opened doors to key commercial partnerships and internal adoption by Intel teams.
The company is also expanding its US presence and working alongside federal agencies to further validate its models for national security use cases.
Sands Capital said: “RevEng.ai is addressing a critical challenge in cybersecurity with its innovative approach. We are proud to support their vision.”
What’s Next
With this investment, RevEng.ai will:
- Expand its AI engineering team
- Enhance its foundation models for code threat detection
- Accelerate its U.S. go-to-market efforts
- Strengthen its platform’s capabilities in analyzing diverse software binaries at scale
