Perforce Software, the DevOps platform for global teams, is doubling down on AI-powered game development tools and community engagement at the 2026 GDC Festival of Gaming. The company is launching a slate of initiatives designed to connect developers, artists, and pipeline engineers while showcasing how AI and real-time workflows can enhance human creativity.
At the center of Perforce’s GDC presence is a live episode of its “In Development” podcast, featuring Tom Guillermin, co-founder of Sandfall Interactive. Guillermin will share how his 50-person team built the award-winning Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which claimed nine Game Awards in 2025, including Game of the Year. The conversation promises insights into designing world-class creative pipelines without compromising human craftsmanship.
“The conversation around AI in creative industries tends to focus on what the tech can produce,” said Jase Lindgren, Senior User Advocate at Perforce. “We’re more interested in what creators can make with real-time workflows and tools that keep them in control.”
Art of Version Control: Showcasing Digital Craft
Perforce is also hosting the Art of Version Control Showcase, a 3D art competition inviting character artists, level designers, and digital creators to submit work across four categories: Best Character or Creature, Best Prop or Accessory, Best Vehicle, and Best Process. Judging panels include teams from Naughty Dog, Mojang Studios, and more. Winners will receive cash prizes, feature exposure at next year’s GDC, and inclusion in a globally distributed #ArtofVersionControl video. The contest is open through April 30, 2026.
Surveying Real-Time Workflows
In partnership with AWS, Perforce is releasing its annual Real-Time Workflow Survey, probing the practical challenges that developers, technical leads, and artists face with game technology and generative AI. Findings will feed the 2026 State of Game Technology report, offering one of the broadest cross-vertical snapshots of workflow trends in gaming, VFX, animation, and 3D visualization.
AI-Driven Tools for Modern Pipelines
Perforce continues to expand its AI capabilities with the P4 MCP, allowing users to query assets, track changes, and surface dependencies using natural language. Integrated with tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and JetBrains Rider, P4 MCP respects enterprise permissions while offering AI-assisted read and write operations.
Meanwhile, the P4 One plugin for Unreal Engine, launching in the Fab digital marketplace later this month, allows creators to experiment on live projects without duplicating large files. Users can toggle between variants of a model or scene within a level, streamlining ideation and testing.
Scaling with P4 Cloud
Finally, Perforce has expanded its P4 Cloud platform to support teams of up to 100 users. The managed, hosted version of Perforce P4 provides flexible, secure deployment across the U.S., U.K., and EU. “P4 Cloud isn’t just for small teams anymore,” said Brent Schiestl, Senior Director of Product Management. “We’re doubling capacity to meet the dynamic needs of larger studios and enterprises.”
Perforce’s 2026 GDC initiatives highlight a clear trend: AI and real-time workflows aren’t replacing human creativity—they’re amplifying it. From live podcasts and art competitions to cloud-based tools and AI integrations, the company is positioning itself as a hub for developers who want control, speed, and innovation at scale.
