Expedient and Nutanix Expand Multitenant Cloud for AI

Expedient and Nutanix Expand Cloud for Enterprise AI Expedient and Nutanix Expand Cloud for Enterprise AI

Expedient is expanding its partnership with Nutanix to offer multitenant cloud infrastructure alongside dedicated private cloud, disaster recovery, and AI services. The expanded offering uses Nutanix SP Central to provide customers with securely isolated environments on shared infrastructure, reducing the need to purchase and manage dedicated hardware. It also creates an infrastructure path to governed enterprise AI through Expedient’s AI CTRL Platform, allowing organizations to run traditional workloads, containerized applications, and AI services within a managed cloud environment.

Expedient Adds Multitenant Nutanix Cloud as an AI Infrastructure On-Ramp

Enterprise cloud modernization has often required organizations to invest in dedicated hardware, build virtualization expertise, and take responsibility for managing complex infrastructure. That model can be difficult for businesses that want modern private cloud capabilities but lack the resources to operate them independently.

Expedient’s expanded partnership with Nutanix aims to lower that entry barrier. The managed cloud provider is introducing a multitenant deployment option for Expedient Cloud Powered by Nutanix, using Nutanix Service Provider Central (SP Central) to host multiple customers on shared infrastructure while maintaining logically isolated environments.

The expansion also connects the cloud offering with Expedient’s AI CTRL Platform, positioning the infrastructure as a managed route toward enterprise AI deployment. Customers can combine multitenant and dedicated private cloud services with disaster recovery, backup, colocation, and AI capabilities through one provider.

Nutanix SP Central Brings Multitenancy to Managed Private Cloud

The new service changes how customers can access Nutanix-based infrastructure. Rather than procuring and maintaining a dedicated hardware environment, organizations can use an isolated tenant environment hosted in Expedient’s data centers.

Nutanix SP Central provides the multitenant management foundation. It is designed to let service providers operate multiple customer environments on shared infrastructure while maintaining separation across computing, storage, and networking resources.

For customers, this model can reduce upfront infrastructure investment and the operational burden associated with running a private cloud. Expedient manages the underlying platform and provides 24/7/365 U.S.-based support.

A key part of the architecture is Nutanix AHV, the company’s hypervisor. Expedient says workloads can move between on-premises, dedicated, and multitenant environments without conversion because each deployment uses the same hypervisor foundation.

That portability could help organizations adjust infrastructure placement as workload requirements change. Applications with predictable resource needs might run in a shared environment, while sensitive or performance-intensive workloads could remain in dedicated infrastructure.

The approach also reflects Nutanix’s broader investment in service-provider infrastructure. SP Central is designed to give providers centralized tenant lifecycle management and operational governance while allowing customers to manage resources within their own environments.

AI CTRL Connects Cloud Infrastructure With Governed AI

Beyond infrastructure modernization, the partnership is positioning the Nutanix environment as a foundation for moving enterprise AI workloads from experimentation into production.

Nutanix supports virtual machines and containerized applications alongside AI workloads. This gives organizations an opportunity to introduce AI services within an infrastructure environment that already supports their business applications and data.

Expedient is adding its AI CTRL Platform to this proposition. The company describes AI CTRL as a managed AI service with integrated security, governance, cost predictability, and data-sovereignty controls.

The objective is to reduce the need for customers to build and manage a separate AI environment. Instead, organizations can use Expedient as a partner for both their underlying cloud infrastructure and managed AI capabilities.

This is relevant for businesses that want to deploy AI applications but face practical challenges around infrastructure capacity, data governance, security, and operational costs. A managed service model can reduce the number of platform components customers need to operate themselves, although the specific AI models, compute configurations, and workload-level controls remain important evaluation criteria.

One Provider for Cloud, Disaster Recovery, and Colocation

The expanded service also brings together several infrastructure services under Expedient’s portfolio.

Customers can add Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), Expedient Backup, and colocation alongside the Nutanix-based cloud environment. Expedient says its services are supported across 14 U.S. data centers.

The company has also received the Powered by Nutanix: Verified Solutions qualification for its Dedicated Private Cloud, Multitenant Private Cloud, and Disaster Recovery as a Service offerings.

For IT teams, consolidating infrastructure, backup, and recovery services with one provider could simplify vendor management and operational coordination. It may also help organizations establish more consistent infrastructure policies across different deployment environments.

However, a unified provider relationship does not automatically eliminate the need for independent disaster recovery planning. Businesses still need to evaluate recovery objectives, backup retention, geographic separation, service-level commitments, and workload dependencies.

AI Infrastructure Spending Raises the Stakes

The partnership arrives as demand for AI-ready infrastructure increases. Gartner forecasts worldwide spending on AI-optimized infrastructure as a service will reach $42.3 billion in 2026, representing 96.4% growth from 2025. It expects the market to expand further to $66.1 billion in 2027.

That investment reflects a shift from AI experimentation toward production workloads that require sustained computing capacity, data access, and operational support.

The market includes hyperscale cloud platforms, private cloud providers, infrastructure software companies, and specialist AI infrastructure operators. Providers such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud offer extensive cloud and AI services, while Nutanix focuses on consistent infrastructure management across hybrid and distributed environments.

Expedient’s strategy is more service-oriented: combine Nutanix infrastructure with managed operations, recovery services, and a governed AI offering. This may appeal to organizations that prefer a managed relationship over building and maintaining a cloud platform internally.

The competitive question is whether managed multitenancy can deliver an attractive balance of cost, workload isolation, performance, and flexibility compared with dedicated private cloud and hyperscale public cloud alternatives.

A Managed Route From Infrastructure Modernization to AI

For Expedient, the expanded Nutanix relationship extends its cloud portfolio beyond dedicated environments into shared infrastructure and managed AI services. For Nutanix, it strengthens the service-provider ecosystem around SP Central and creates another route to market for its hybrid cloud platform.

The value for customers will depend on how effectively the model handles tenant isolation, workload mobility, resource allocation, and governance as AI applications become more demanding.

The broader proposition is straightforward: organizations should not need to build an entirely new infrastructure stack to adopt AI. By bringing managed cloud, disaster recovery, and AI services together, Expedient and Nutanix are attempting to make that transition more accessible.

Market Landscape

Enterprise infrastructure is moving toward hybrid environments where traditional applications, containers, and AI workloads can operate across different deployment models.

Three market developments are relevant:

  • Multitenant private cloud: Service providers are using shared infrastructure with logical tenant isolation to make private cloud services more accessible and operationally scalable.
  • AI-ready infrastructure: Production AI requires compute capacity, data access, security, and governance that can integrate with existing enterprise applications.
  • Hybrid workload mobility: Organizations want flexibility to place workloads according to cost, performance, compliance, and operational requirements.

Expedient’s differentiation is the combination of managed infrastructure operations and AI services, rather than infrastructure software alone. The model targets customers that want cloud flexibility without assuming full responsibility for platform management.
