Corel is adding text-to-vector generation, enhanced PowerTRACE and expanded browser capabilities to the September 2026 update of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite. The release brings generative AI deeper into professional design workflows while keeping generated artwork editable, scalable and connected to established print, signage, apparel and production processes.
Generative AI is moving into professional creative software, but the more important question for production teams is what happens after an image is generated.
Corel is addressing that question with the September 2026 update to CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, adding text-to-vector AI alongside a redesigned PowerTRACE workflow and new capabilities for CorelDRAW Web.
The release expands Corel’s Artist Intelligence approach, but its emphasis remains on editable production assets rather than one-click finished artwork. Text prompts can now generate scalable vector graphics that designers can modify using conventional CorelDRAW tools, while AI-assisted tracing is intended to make it easier to turn existing raster artwork into editable vector objects.
That distinction matters for professional environments such as print shops, sign manufacturers, apparel decorators and in-house creative departments, where an asset frequently has to be resized, recolored, separated, edited or adapted for a particular output process.
Text-to-vector brings generative AI into the vector workflow
The headline feature in the September release is AI text-to-vector generation.
CorelDRAW’s new Create Vector workflow can generate editable vector artwork from a text prompt. Designers can optionally supply reference material such as an existing logo, illustration, product design or photograph to influence the visual direction. Corel provides three vector-focused models—Vector Spark, Vector Craft and Vector Master—intended for different levels of complexity and creative exploration.
The generated result is not locked into a raster image. Designers can resize it, modify nodes and shapes, change colors and otherwise refine the artwork inside the application’s normal vector environment.
That makes the feature relevant to workflows where AI is primarily being used to accelerate ideation and preparation.
A sign maker could generate several visual directions for a customer before manually adapting one to the required dimensions. An apparel designer could create a motif and then refine its geometry and colors. A creative team could generate variations during an early concept stage without having to manually construct every option from scratch.
Corel also added Quick AI Generate, a simplified workflow for creating vectors, images or image edits without configuring the full AI interface. The company says the feature is designed for first drafts, quick ideas and one-off visual tasks.
The approach reflects a broader trend in professional creative software: AI is increasingly becoming an embedded capability inside applications designers already use rather than a separate destination.
Adobe’s 2026 research provides an indication of how that shift is affecting creative work. Its April 2026 analysis found that AI was explicitly required in 18% of creative job postings from mid-market and enterprise companies, while graphic designers represented 11% of AI-requiring creative postings.
PowerTRACE tackles the less glamorous side of AI-assisted design
The September release is not solely about generative AI.
Corel has also substantially redesigned PowerTRACE, its bitmap-to-vector conversion technology. The update adds a modernized interface, improved controls, better color handling, AI-assisted background removal and changes to the resulting object structure.
Corel says the updated tracing workflow can deliver performance improvements of up to four times, while allowing users to prepare source images through upsampling or downsampling before conversion.
For production teams, this may be as consequential as text-to-vector generation.
Professional artwork often starts in imperfect form. A customer might provide a low-resolution JPEG logo, an old raster graphic or a scanned illustration when the final application requires scalable vector artwork. Converting that material can involve significant cleanup before the asset is usable.
The revised PowerTRACE workflow is designed to reduce that preparation burden while keeping the resulting objects editable.
AI-assisted background removal can isolate a subject before tracing, while improved color sorting and the ability to remove selected colors from the source provide more control over the resulting vector. Corel has also reorganized trace components in the Objects inspector to make the output easier to edit.
This combination illustrates where AI can have practical value in production software: not necessarily by completing an entire creative project autonomously, but by compressing repetitive preparation steps.
CorelDRAW Web becomes more production-oriented
The September update also extends CorelDRAW Web, bringing several desktop-oriented workflows into the browser.
Subscribers can upload TrueType and OpenType fonts to Corel Cloud, helping maintain typography when documents move between desktop and Web environments. CorelDRAW Web also gains AI generation capabilities and the ability to create vectors from text prompts.
DWG and DXF export is another notable addition.
Those formats are widely associated with technical drawing, fabrication and computer-controlled production workflows, so browser-based export can make CorelDRAW Web more useful beyond purely visual collaboration.
The Web release also adds improvements around missing fonts, cloud documents and authentication, while Corel says the broader September update includes performance and stability fixes based on customer-reported issues.
That last category is easy to overlook amid the generative AI discussion. For professional production environments, stability and predictable file handling can be as important as new creative features because complex documents may ultimately feed into physical output.
AI spending is moving toward embedded software
Corel’s strategy arrives as businesses continue increasing investment in AI-enabled software.
Gartner forecasts worldwide spending on AI models and platforms will reach $64.3 billion in 2026, up 63.4% from 2025. Spending on AI application development platforms is forecast to grow 38.6%, while specialized generative AI models are projected to grow 210%.
The broader implication for application vendors is that AI increasingly has to demonstrate value inside established workflows.
CorelDRAW’s update follows that model. Rather than creating a separate AI design product, Corel is putting generation, tracing and image manipulation into an application that already handles vector illustration, typography, page layout, color management and production preparation.
That creates a different proposition from standalone image-generation systems. The value is not simply producing a visually appealing output. It is shortening the path from an idea or imperfect source file to an asset that can actually be edited and prepared for production.
Professional control remains part of the workflow
Corel’s September release therefore represents a relatively pragmatic form of generative AI adoption.
Text-to-vector can accelerate concept development. PowerTRACE can reduce manual vectorization work. CorelDRAW Web can extend parts of the workflow into the browser. But designers remain responsible for refining the resulting assets and preparing them for their intended output.
That model is particularly relevant in professional environments where artwork has constraints around dimensions, colors, typography, fabrication, printing and brand consistency.
