atNorth, the leading Nordic provider of colocation, high-performance computing (HPC), and artificial intelligence infrastructure, today announced a major long-term agreement with Nokia to support the telecom giant’s cloud infrastructure with a multi-megawatt deployment at atNorth’s FIN02 site in Finland. The 12-year contract, with potential scalability to over 10MW, marks a significant expansion of the companies’ longstanding partnership and underscores both organizations’ deep commitment to high-density computing and sustainable operations.
Project Highlights:
- Location: FIN02 Data Center, Espoo, Greater Helsinki
- Capacity: Over 10 megawatts of scalable infrastructure
- Workload Density: More than 130kW per rack, powered and cooled for HPC and AI demands
- Energy Source: 100% renewable energy, including integration with local heat reuse systems
- Timeline: Initial deployment active; long-term expansion through 2037 and beyond
- Sustainability: FIN02 supports liquid cooling, modular design, and heat recycling through a partnership with Kesko Corporation
Built on a Sustainable Foundation and Technical Trust
Nokia has long leveraged Finland’s naturally cool climate and renewable energy mix to support its sustainability agenda. Earlier this year, the company was recognized as the most sustainable telecommunications company in the world. This new deployment reflects Nokia’s evolving infrastructure needs, with a growing emphasis on high-density workloads and scalable edge computing, while maintaining a net-zero trajectory.
The collaboration also builds upon Nokia’s data center hardware integration within atNorth’s HPCaaS services operating in Iceland and Sweden, making this an evolution of both business and technical alignment.
“As the data center industry accelerates, businesses are demanding scalable, secure, and sustainable infrastructure,” said Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth. “This project with Nokia exemplifies our ability to deliver on all three, especially for high-density workloads.”
Driving Innovation and Heat Efficiency at FIN02
atNorth’s FIN02 facility, launched in 2024, is purpose-built for modular scaling, high-performance computing, and liquid cooling. Its heat reuse initiative with Kesko Corporation allows excess energy to warm local facilities, significantly improving the carbon efficiency of the data center’s operation.
The Nokia project adds to atNorth’s growing momentum in Finland, including:
- Two additional metro sites around Helsinki
- A forthcoming mega-site in Kouvola, scheduled for launch by end of 2025
The Future of Cloud Infrastructure is High-Density and Low-Carbon
As global enterprises transition to AI-native and cloud-first strategies, the need for dense, sustainable, and agile infrastructure is more pressing than ever. This partnership reinforces atNorth’s position as Europe’s sustainability leader in colocation and HPC services, while supporting Nokia’s vision for a smarter, greener cloud future.
