SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – 18 March 2026 – Asana, Inc. has today announced its new Asana AI Teammates, specialised agents that operate inside workflows to coordinate work across teams, with early users completing work twice as fast.
Most AI tools still operate at the level of individual productivity. But real work moves across teams, dependencies and approvals. Without shared context and governance, AI struggles to deliver impact.
Asana AI Teammates are designed to work in the same environment as the team, embedding directly into projects to coordinate execution.
Smarter teamwork, not just smarter prompts
Unlike standalone tools, AI Teammates are built for shared work:
- Multiplayer by design: Agents live in the project, updating shared plans as priorities change
- Zero coordination overhead: Agents absorb the “coordination tax”, handling the status checks, handoffs and follow-ups that typically slow teams down
- Institutional memory: Knowledge is retained and improves outcomes across the organisation over time
- Governed execution: Agents operate within existing permissions and security frameworks
These agents are designed to handle the coordination-heavy work that typically slows teams down.
At launch, Asana is introducing 21 pre-built AI Teammates across Marketing, IT and Operations, alongside a no-code builder for custom agents. Examples include:
- Campaign Brief Writer: Turns transcripts, documents and threads into structured briefs, flagging missing inputs before work begins
- Workflow Optimiser: Identifies where work sits idle and builds automations to remove bottlenecks
- Compliance Specialist: Checks work in real time against security and regulatory standards, flagging issues instantly
- Launch Planner: Maps dependencies across teams and predicts how delays will impact delivery timelines
Adoption signals shift to shared AI
Following a beta program with more than 200 organisations, Asana saw strong uptake of collaborative AI and clear improvements in productivity:
93% of AI Teammates were granted full edit access, reflecting trust in their role coordinating real work. Teams also moved quickly toward shared agents, applying them across functions from IT to strategic planning.
Teams completed work twice as fast. Tasks managed by AI Teammates were also 3.2x more likely to have clear ownership and 2.6x more likely to have defined deadlines, improving visibility across projects.
Faster execution is amazing, but clearer ownership, better deadlines, more visibility? That’s what takes company growth and success to the next level.
Customer impact
Morningstar used AI Teammates to analyse large volumes of historical project data, completing work in hours that would previously take weeks.
“A huge job that would have taken a human a monumental amount of time, the AI Teammate was able to just go through it in hours,” says Alina Lamy, Senior Project Manager, Morningstar.
The work also surfaced deeper insights from existing data, helping inform critical business decisions and shifting how teams approach complex analysis.
Human-I-T applied AI Teammates to improve data accuracy across high-volume workflows.
Jean Favela, IT Manager, Human-I-T said, “we went from two hours of manual portfolio review down to 30 minutes.”
“The real impact is quality. We eliminated the class of errors that was breaking our downstream reporting. Now I can assess every device in our organisation with confidence. That’s something that was simply impossible before—not difficult, impossible.”
The organisation has since expanded its use of AI Teammates into strategic and executive workflows, using them to support planning, task creation and follow-ups.
