State Fair of Texas Renews accesso Ticketing Deal Through 2030, Doubles Down on Digital Payments

When you’re moving more than 2 million visitors through the gates in 24 days, ticketing isn’t back office—it’s mission-critical infrastructure.

That’s why the State Fair of Texas has renewed its long-standing partnership with accesso Technology Group through 2030, continuing to run its high-volume ticketing operations on the accesso ShoWare platform.

For an event founded in 1886 and now recognized as the longest-running fair in the U.S., the renewal underscores a growing reality in large-scale live events: digital performance is inseparable from guest experience.

Scaling for 2 Million Guests

The State Fair of Texas operates for 24 consecutive days each fall and regularly draws more than 2 million visitors. That volume creates a unique technical challenge—especially when transactions spike during peak entry windows.

Over the course of their partnership, the Fair and accesso have steadily evolved the ticketing experience to meet changing consumer expectations around speed, flexibility, and mobile-first convenience.

Jennifer Schuder, Senior Vice President of Customer Engagement at the Fair, cited support and flexibility as key reasons for renewal, emphasizing accesso’s ability to handle the Fair’s scale and complex pricing strategies.

In large live events, pricing is rarely static. Dynamic pricing tiers, bundled packages, promotional windows, and add-ons require systems that can flex in real time without slowing throughput.

Digital Wallets Drive 30% of Payments

The latest season introduced a major shift: integration of accessoPay with Cybersource payment processing through ShoWare. The upgrade expanded support for digital wallets and tap-to-pay transactions.

The result? More than 30% of all payments were completed using digital wallets.

That figure is significant.

Across entertainment and leisure sectors, mobile wallet adoption has been rising, but crossing the 30% threshold at a high-volume, multi-week event signals a broader behavioral shift. Guests increasingly expect frictionless checkout experiences—whether buying tickets online or entering the grounds.

Digital wallet adoption also brings operational benefits:

  • Faster transaction times
  • Reduced entry bottlenecks
  • Lower physical cash handling
  • Increased online pre-purchase rates

For events operating on tight seasonal timelines, shaving seconds off transaction times can translate into materially improved entry flow—and potentially higher per-capita spend.

Parking Integration: Small Feature, Big Impact

In addition to payment modernization, the Fair piloted a proof-of-concept integration between ShoWare and its parking vendor to enable pre-sold parking.

While it may sound incremental, pre-sold parking can meaningfully improve traffic management and guest planning. Visitors can secure parking in advance, reducing uncertainty and smoothing entry patterns.

After a successful rollout, the Fair plans to expand the offering in future seasons—a sign that operational tech investments are extending beyond ticketing into end-to-end guest journey orchestration.

In large-scale events, the next competitive frontier isn’t just selling tickets. It’s coordinating transportation, payments, access control, and on-site commerce into a unified flow.

Ticketing as Infrastructure

accesso ShoWare is positioned as an enterprise-grade ticketing solution designed for complex venues and high-demand events. For operators like the State Fair of Texas, reliability under peak load is non-negotiable.

Unlike one-night concerts or limited-run festivals, the Fair sustains high transaction volumes daily for over three weeks. Systems must handle continuous throughput rather than short bursts.

Joe Wettstead, Vice President of Client Success at accesso, emphasized that supporting an event of this scale requires more than software—it demands operational alignment and long-term collaboration.

That alignment appears to be working. The renewal through 2030 suggests the Fair sees technology not as a vendor relationship, but as an embedded partnership in its broader modernization strategy.

The Bigger Industry Trend

The live entertainment and attractions industry is undergoing steady digital transformation.

From stadiums to theme parks to large civic events, operators are investing in:

  • Contactless payments
  • Mobile-first ticketing
  • Integrated parking and access control
  • Data-driven pricing strategies
  • Real-time operational analytics

For seasonal mega-events like the State Fair of Texas, these upgrades aren’t just about convenience—they’re about managing scale efficiently while improving per-guest experience.

As consumer expectations mirror those set by e-commerce and fintech platforms, legacy cash-heavy, paper-ticket systems are becoming harder to justify.

A Long-Term Bet on Operational Agility

By extending its agreement through 2030, the State Fair of Texas is signaling confidence in accesso’s ability to evolve alongside shifting guest behaviors.

With digital wallet usage already surpassing 30% and integrated parking gaining traction, the next five years will likely focus on deeper personalization, dynamic pricing optimization, and further automation of entry and payment workflows.

For an institution that has been running since the 19th century, the message is clear: tradition may anchor the brand—but technology is driving the future.
