Tecnológico de Monterrey has announced the creation of the AI Global Education Network (AIGEN) and the availability of TECgpt, its generative AI ecosystem, to universities. This initiative aims to drive AI adoption in higher education, enabling universities to explore, integrate, and innovate using AI tools and platforms.
The announcement took place at the IFE Conference, “Driving the Future of Education with Innovation and Technologies,” held from January 28 to 30 at Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Key Announcement Highlights:
- AIGEN Community Launch: AIGEN is a community aimed at facilitating AI applications in universities by promoting the adoption of AI tools and platforms. The network fosters collaboration between universities to share, create, and recommend best practices for AI adoption.
- TECgpt Availability: TECgpt, the generative AI ecosystem developed by Tecnológico de Monterrey, is now available to universities within the AIGEN network to help enhance AI adoption.
Leadership Insights: Michael Fung, Executive Director of the Institute for the Future of Education at Tecnológico de Monterrey, described AIGEN as a network of universities with a common goal of advancing AI adoption. He emphasized that AIGEN is not about setting standards but rather about fostering collaboration and best practice sharing.
AIGEN’s Three Main Pillars:
- Software: Exploring both commercial and open-source AI tools for education, enabling universities to adopt the most suitable technologies for their needs.
- Teaching and Learning: Developing guidelines for ethical and responsible AI use, offering training programs, and redesigning curricula to prepare students for the future of work.
- Research: Collecting usage data, assessing the impact of AI adoption, developing learning materials, and providing ongoing feedback and assessment to improve the use of AI in education.
Pilot Program and Universities Involved: AIGEN will conduct a pilot program involving 10 universities, with 30 faculty members from each institution participating in the trial to test TECgpt’s features. The program will last for 3-4 months, with findings to be presented at the IFE Conference 2026. Some of the universities already part of the initiative include:
- National Autonomous University of Mexico
- University of Guadalajara
- Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
- University of Cuenca
- Austral University
- Autonomous University of Madrid
Workshops and Future Goals: A workshop titled “Training on IFE OpenGPT and the AI Global Education Network (AIGEN)” took place on January 29 during the IFE Conference. The goal of this workshop was to officially launch the initiative and encourage more universities to join the AIGEN network.
Michael Fung also emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration and creating a more inclusive ecosystem within the educational sector. AIGEN’s objective is to foster the exchange of valuable use cases, while ensuring that contributions from top universities benefit the entire community.
