At bbcon 2025, Blackbaud (NASDAQ: BLKB) announced a sweeping expansion of AI capabilities across its product portfolio, along with the launch of a sector-wide AI coalition aimed at helping nonprofits and mission-driven organizations harness AI responsibly.
“Nonprofits are built for times of uncertainty, and AI is the catalyst that can help them rise to today’s greatest challenges,” said Mike Gianoni, CEO of Blackbaud. “We’re embedding sector-specific AI directly into our products and backing it with resources like a free AI certification through the new AI Coalition for Social Impact. We’re setting a new standard for what’s possible.”
Agents for Good™: AI as Teammates
Blackbaud introduced Agents for Good™, an agentic AI suite designed to function as virtual team members for nonprofits. The first agent, Development Agent, automates donor engagement, helping organizations identify and steward contributors they couldn’t previously reach—unlocking revenue streams efficiently and cost-effectively.
Other AI enhancements include:
- Embedded AI across fundraising, finance, and CSR solutions, automating workflows like donor follow-up, email drafting, and personalized cultivation plans.
- Connected insights across business offices, allowing staff to query AI for real-time accounting and operational data without leaving the platform.
- AI-powered translations and dashboards that turn Blackbaud systems of record into intelligent action platforms.
Convening the Sector: AI Coalition for Social Impact
To promote responsible AI adoption, Blackbaud has formed the AI Coalition for Social Impact, bringing together partners such as Databricks, Datacamp, OneTrust, GivingTuesday, and others. The coalition will deliver the AI for Social Impact Certification Course, a free, platform-agnostic program designed to teach foundational AI skills tailored to nonprofits.
“Responsible AI will define the leaders of this generation,” said Carrie Cobb, Blackbaud’s Chief Data and AI Officer. “Fairness, transparency, inclusiveness, and trust must be built into governance, training, and product design from the start.”
Building an Agentic Ecosystem
Blackbaud’s vision extends beyond its own agents. The company aims to orchestrate agents from across the ecosystem, enabling users to accomplish complex goals by delegating tasks to the right AI agents, whether built by Blackbaud or third-party providers. Over the past year, partner integrations expanded 22%, including DocuSign for grantmaking and UBIQ for school websites.
“Blackbaud AI now generates over 30 billion predictions annually to help customers reach the right prospects,” said Andy Snyder, SVP and technical fellow. “We’re setting our customers up for future success, ensuring their technology works seamlessly across other AI systems tomorrow.”
Impact and Sector Endorsements
Founding coalition members praised Blackbaud’s initiative:
- Andrea Wood, ACCP: “AI can help CSR professionals work smarter and faster, expanding their ability to create positive change.”
- Daryl Brewster, CECP: “Collaboration will drive meaningful change; this initiative equips leaders to harness AI responsibly.”
- Brad Offman, Greater Purpose: “Certification allows small teams to amplify their work and create more substantive impact.”
- Rebecca Evans, OneTrust: “Blackbaud is giving social impact leaders confidence, skills, and safeguards to deliver meaningful change.”
With Agents for Good™ and the AI Coalition, Blackbaud is positioning itself as a pioneer in responsible, mission-focused AI, equipping nonprofits with the tools, skills, and ecosystem to scale impact in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
