Arelion has announced a major fiber network upgrade across Scandinavia, targeting the region’s rapidly growing AI and data center markets. By installing high-fiber count cables between Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen, the company is reinforcing its leadership in the Nordic fiber market while future-proofing infrastructure for hyperscale data centers.
Boosting Capacity for AI and Hyperscalers
The expansion leverages existing ducts to minimize environmental impact while adding significant new fiber. Arelion’s network already spans terrestrial routes connecting 13 subsea cables across the Nordics and Baltics, giving businesses direct connectivity to Europe, North America, and beyond. The upgrade includes last-mile infrastructure linking hyperscaler data centers, ensuring low-latency, high-capacity connectivity for AI workloads and emerging enterprise applications.
Scandinavia’s Growing Data Center Hub
Scandinavia offers attractive conditions for data centers, including ample land, sustainable energy, and stable pricing. Oslo alone has 423 MW of data center capacity, with regional installations projected to grow by 280–580 MW annually. Analysts forecast the Nordic data center market to hit $7.38 billion by 2030, while the regional AI sector is expected to reach $19.9 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 26.24%.
Strategic, Sustainable Investment
“By anticipating future demand rather than reacting to it, we built the infrastructure foundation that’s now critical for supporting AI growth in Scandinavia,” said Daniel Kurgan, CEO at Arelion. “Installing new cables in our existing ducts also reduces environmental impact compared to building new duct systems. This upgrade is the first of a series of investments to enhance capacity, scalability, and diversity, helping customers tap into Scandinavia’s AI superhighway.”
The network expansion is expected to be completed by 2026, with additional investments continuing through 2027, signaling Arelion’s long-term commitment to supporting hyperscale AI deployments and enterprise connectivity across the Nordics.
