Smartsheet has announced a new set of AI agents, agentic workflows, integrations and security capabilities at its ENGAGE 2026 customer conference. The updates are designed to help enterprises automate routine work, connect operational data across business applications and govern AI-driven actions through existing permissions and security controls. The launch also introduces vsActual, a separate AI-native planning and execution product intended to help leaders identify gaps between organizational priorities and actual delivery.
Smartsheet Expands AI Agents With New Enterprise Controls
Enterprise adoption of artificial intelligence is creating a new operational challenge: organizations can generate information and automate individual tasks faster, but coordinating work across disconnected systems remains difficult. Project updates, data checks, approvals and follow-ups still consume time, while AI tools often lack the business context needed to move work toward completion.
Smartsheet is addressing this gap with a broader set of enterprise AI capabilities announced at its ENGAGE 2026 customer conference. The company is introducing specialized AI agents, recurring agentic workflows, new integrations and additional security controls designed to connect AI activity with the operational data and permissions already used by organizations.
The announcements reflect a shift in enterprise AI from assistance and content generation toward execution. Rather than simply answering questions about projects, Smartsheet wants AI agents to perform recurring work, identify data issues and help teams create operational structures.
The strategy also places governance and system connectivity alongside agent capabilities, addressing two challenges that can slow the deployment of AI across large organizations.
Specialized AI Agents Target Routine Enterprise Work
Smartsheet’s new Agentic Workflows allow users to describe recurring tasks in natural language and turn them into automated processes.
A request for a weekly project summary or a review of risks and dependencies, for example, can become a recurring workflow that runs automatically and delivers results to relevant stakeholders. The goal is to identify potential problems earlier, reducing the need for employees to manually collect updates and prepare status reports.
The company is also introducing two specialized agents.
The Creation Agent converts plain-language instructions into working projects that include sheets, dashboards, reports and automations. This could reduce the initial setup effort for teams launching projects or organizing new operational initiatives.
The Data Quality Agent reviews sheets and identifies issues by severity. It can operate on demand or according to a schedule, helping teams identify inconsistencies before they affect reporting or project decisions.
Both agents are available today, according to the announcement. They can be accessed through Smart Assist or connected AI tools, with Smartsheet saying users do not need to configure or manage each agent independently.
The agents use live project data and existing permissions to ground their outputs in current work information. This is important for enterprise deployments, where an AI system needs to respect access boundaries rather than expose information simply because it is available somewhere within the organization.
Integrations Connect Work Data Across Business Systems
Disconnected data is another obstacle to enterprise AI adoption. Project information often sits across work management platforms, customer relationship management systems, human resources applications and service management tools.
Smartsheet says it processes 277 billion rows of work data each month, highlighting the scale of operational information moving through its platform.
The company is introducing native integrations with ServiceNow, Microsoft Dynamics 365, HubSpot and Workday. These connections are designed to synchronize data automatically, reducing manual updates between business systems. Additional native integrations are expected to arrive quarterly.
A separate Integration Agent is entering early access. Initially supporting GitHub, Zendesk, Airtable and monday.com, the agent is designed to let users request external data through natural-language instructions and bring it into Smartsheet.
This approach could simplify integration work for teams that lack the engineering resources to build and maintain custom connections. However, the announcement does not detail the agent’s supported data operations, synchronization frequency, conflict resolution mechanisms or controls for complex enterprise integrations.
The broader objective is to give employees and AI agents access to a more consistent view of operational information across the tools organizations already use.
Security and Governance Become Central to Agent Deployment
As AI agents gain permission to access and modify business information, organizations need clearer controls over what those systems can see and do.
Smartsheet is expanding its security and governance capabilities alongside the agent announcements.
The company has received ISO/IEC 42001 certification, an international standard for AI management systems. It also announced an IRAP assessment, which evaluates security controls against the Australian government’s Information Security Manual.
Additional capabilities include Security Event Streaming, which sends audit events to monitoring platforms such as Splunk and Microsoft Sentinel in near real time. This feature is available today.
Data Classification, available with Smartsheet Safeguard, allows administrators to define sensitivity labels such as General, Confidential and protected health information. Employees can apply these classifications while working, with centralized reporting and an audit trail of changes.
These controls address a growing enterprise requirement: making AI activity visible and ensuring that automated actions remain within organizational policies.
The announcement also cites IBM’s 2026 Cost of a Data Breach Report, stating that 68% of breached organizations lacked AI governance to manage AI or detect unauthorized use. That figure underscores the governance challenge, although it should be understood as the statistic cited by Smartsheet rather than an independent assessment of its own platform.
vsActual Extends the Strategy Into Planning and Execution
Smartsheet also introduced vsActual, an AI-native planning and execution product designed to help leaders compare organizational priorities with actual progress.
The product is intended to identify execution drift: the gap between what an organization plans to deliver and what teams accomplish. By surfacing whether work is progressing against priorities, vsActual aims to help leaders identify problems while corrective action is still possible.
The product is separate from the new agents and integrations. Smartsheet is inviting interested organizations to sign up for updates rather than announcing general availability in the release.
Enterprise AI Moves From Assistance Toward Execution
The announcements position Smartsheet within a broader enterprise AI shift. Organizations increasingly want AI systems that can operate across business workflows, access relevant information and take action under defined governance rules.
The challenge is that agent capabilities alone do not guarantee better execution. Agents need reliable data, appropriate permissions, integration with existing systems and oversight of the actions they perform.
By combining specialized agents, recurring workflows, integrations and security controls, Smartsheet is attempting to address these requirements as parts of one enterprise work management environment.
For IT leaders, the practical test will be whether the new capabilities reduce manual coordination without creating additional integration, security or administration burdens. For business teams, the value will depend on whether agents can deliver accurate, useful work products rather than simply generate another layer of summaries and notifications.
The launch signals Smartsheet’s effort to move enterprise AI beyond isolated productivity features and into the operational systems where organizations plan, coordinate and deliver work.
Market Landscape
Enterprise AI is increasingly moving toward systems that can execute tasks across business applications rather than operate solely as conversational assistants.
Smartsheet’s announcements address four connected areas:
- Agentic workflows: Automating recurring operational tasks such as project reporting, risk checks and data reviews.
- Enterprise AI integration: Connecting information across CRM, HR, IT service management and collaboration platforms.
- AI governance: Applying permissions, audit trails, data classification and security monitoring to AI-enabled operations.
- Execution intelligence: Comparing organizational plans with actual delivery to identify delays and operational gaps.
The competitive landscape includes enterprise platforms such as Microsoft, Salesforce and ServiceNow, which are also expanding AI capabilities across business workflows. The products differ in scope and architecture, but the broader market direction is toward AI systems that can use enterprise context and operate within existing business processes.
Smartsheet’s differentiation will depend on how effectively its agents coordinate with external systems, respect permissions and produce measurable improvements in work execution.
