Thursday 29th October 2026 – Shopify, provider of essential internet infrastructure for commerce, has unveiled its Fall ‘26 Edition, Exponential – the tenth showcase of its latest innovations.
As commerce becomes more complex, businesses need to adapt faster in often unclear ways. The Fall ’26 Edition showcases how Shopify turns this complexity into momentum, with updates for nonlinear growth. These latest features collectively drive the capabilities of millions of merchants worldwide, including more agentic commerce solutions, improvements to payments and major advancements to the Shop offering.
“Australian retailers are operating in an increasingly complex environment. Customer expectations are rising, AI is changing how people discover and buy products, and businesses are under constant pressure to manage costs while finding new ways to grow,” said James Johnson, Head of Enterprise ANZ at Shopify.
“The challenge isn’t just keeping up with these changes, but being able to adapt quickly and take advantage of new opportunities. That’s where having everything connected makes a real difference. With our latest innovations, we’re showcasing the benefits of Shopify’s network effect. Bringing more of Shopify’s capabilities together to help local businesses simplify their operations, reach customers wherever they shop, and grow with greater confidence.”
Strengthening and expanding global payment processes
Shopify Protect
Shopify Protect is a collection of risk and disputes tools in the admin that help stop fraud at checkout. Through the Shopify Protect Rule Builder, merchants can write and test their own fraud rules. Signals from millions of businesses inform Shopify’s defenses, so a card flagged on one store is already known at the next. Shopify Payments prevents more than 12,000 high-risk payments every minute, at no extra cost to businesses using it.
New local payment methods
New local payment methods are available in Shopify Payments, including MB WAY, Satispay, Scalapay, and PayNow. That means merchants no longer need to install a third party plugin to enable these payment methods – it’s all built into the Shopify Payments offering. Moreover, local payment methods appear inside Shop Pay and the Shop app, so merchants can reach domestic and international buyers with a method buyers already trust. In addition, Satispay, Scalapay, and GrabPay work in person on Shopify POS.
More payout currencies have also been made available within Shopify Payments across Australia, France, Singapore and Hong Kong, so a cross-border sale lands in the currency it was made in.
Australian merchants can also now offer Shop Pay Installments, so shoppers pay over time, including longer-term interest-free options, without leaving the Shop Pay checkout.
Building on the foundations of agentic commerce
Shopify Connectors for AI agents
AI agents have become commonplace in many industries, and retail is no exception. With Shopify’s latest advancements, merchants can connect Shopify to the AI agents they already use to manage products, inventory, orders, and performance without leaving the conversation. Shopify Connectors now work with nine agents: ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Duet, Copilot, Gemini, Grok, Grok Bot, Muse, and Perplexity.
Business ideas often start as a question in an AI chat, and now the next step can happen in the same place, while Shopify remains the commerce foundation behind every product, order, and store operation.
Sidekick – Shopify’s AI assistant – got even more knowledgeable, it can now run calculations, write code, search the internet, and remember what a merchant teaches it. Technical work like writing code or researching a market takes time away from running the business. Sidekick now handles that work while ensuring that the merchant approves its changes.
Agentic commerce
Shopify is actively building the foundation for agentic commerce globally. Shop.md (Shop skill) is a skill that turns any AI agent into a personal shopper. Buyers point ChatGPT, Claude, or another agent to shop.md, and it can search more than a billion products, check out with Shop Pay, and track orders. Anyone can customise the skill to fit their style. Because the agent knows a buyer’s preferences, sizes, and order history from Shop, it can find the right products from Shopify merchants and check out with Shop Pay. More shoppers using shop.md means more places merchants can make a sale. Developers can build on the Shop MCP at shop.dev without needing a key.
Shoppers can now use Shop Pay checkout inside personal AI agents starting with Muse from Meta, Claude Duet, and Instinct. Claude Duet, Grok Bot and Instinct also offer Shop Pay for brands not on Shopify. More than 400 million people already trust Shop Pay, and its security model carries over: the buyer remains in control of their purchases, and their card is never shared with the agent. Shop Pay stays secure with tokens from Mastercard, Visa, and Discover for agent purchases from merchants off Shopify.
A view in the Shopify admin that shows whether a store is eligible for Shopify Catalog and links to fixes for anything in the way. Knowledge base, a new page at Sales channels > Agentic, lets merchants review and publish the facts agents get about their store, like return windows, shipping destinations, and gift services. Shopify drafts the facts from the storefront and suggests updates for the merchant to review. ChatGPT, Copilot, Meta, Instinct, and other AI agents get product information from Shopify Catalog, and now merchants can see from the admin whether their store qualifies. With Knowledge base, agents that ask Shopify about a store only get facts the merchant has published, so nothing Shopify drafts reaches an agent without the merchant’s sign-off.
Evolving Shop, the digital assistant for online shopping
Shop.com
Shop has a new home on the web, with shoppable posts, editorial curations, and sections personalised to each shopper. Shop.com brings Shop’s growing audience to the web, so merchants can reach shoppers who haven’t downloaded the app. Buyers can now track orders on Shop.com with the same detail as the Shop app.
Universal Checkout for Shop
Shoppers’ needs often span more than one store. Shopify is introducing one checkout in the Shop app for carts built from multiple merchants. This makes it possible for shoppers to buy from several merchants in one session, meaning more merchants win the sale and checkout still respects every merchant’s extensions and validations – so they can still deliver the experiences they want. Additionally, carts now sync bi-directionally – following shoppers from Shop back to the online store, so returning buyers pick up where they left off.
Continued advancements to Shopify POS
Shopify POS can now recognise even more in-store customers through Shopify’s network of hundreds of millions of people who’ve checked out at any store powered by Shopify Payments. When those shoppers select a digital receipt and choose to share their details, POS can save their information to a customer profile connected to the purchase. Merchants can identify more of their in-store customers without slowing down checkout, and a known in-store customer has over 60% higher lifetime value than an unknown one.
The new recent carts feature lets any associate pick up and complete a sale from any device, a sale is no longer tied to one associate or one register. Staff start a cart anywhere and finish it anywhere, closing it at the register or handing it off with everything intact.
