Usage-Based Pricing for AI Search Monitoring

BrandAxis Launches Pay-As-You-Go AI Tracking BrandAxis Launches Pay-As-You-Go AI Tracking

BrandAxis defines a tracker as one prompt monitored on one AI model for a month, with daily updates. Customers can choose different combinations of prompts and AI platforms for individual brands or client accounts, then adjust that coverage as requirements change.

The company says rates start at $0.51 per tracker per month and decline through volume-based pricing bands to $0.23 at the highest tier. The model includes unlimited workspaces, prorated charges for additions and credits for unused time after reductions. Claude and Grok tracking are listed as options under enterprise agreements rather than the standard tracker offering.

For example, tracking 25 prompts across three AI platforms creates 75 trackers. At the starting rate, that comes to $38.25 before any additional base fee. There is a pricing discrepancy to resolve: the press release describes a $1 monthly base fee, making the same configuration $39.25, while the company’s public pricing page currently displays $38.25 for 75 trackers. Buyers should confirm the amount applicable to their account before comparing costs.

Agencies Are a Key Target

The pricing structure is aimed particularly at agencies managing multiple brands. A client focused on ChatGPT may need a different configuration from one monitoring ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity. Under BrandAxis’s model, each workspace can have its own prompt and model selection, while aggregate usage determines volume pricing.

This is relevant as marketers add generative engine optimisation (GEO) and AI search visibility reporting to their services. Existing platforms already offer prompt and brand monitoring, but their plans package usage differently. Semrush’s AI Visibility Toolkit, for example, lists a $99 monthly price for one domain and 25 custom prompts. Promptwatch lists its Essential plan at $95 per month for 50 prompts and four models, while OtterlyAI’s plans vary by prompt allowance and platform access.

These plans are not identical in features, data collection, model coverage or reporting, so list prices alone do not establish which platform offers better value. BrandAxis’s published comparison estimates lower costs for selected equivalent tracking configurations, but those savings are vendor-calculated and depend on the assumptions used.

Price Is Only One Part of AI Visibility

AI visibility tools aim to show how brands appear in answers produced by systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI search experiences. Marketers can use this information to identify gaps in brand mentions, compare competitors and investigate which sources AI systems reference.

However, tracking more prompts does not necessarily mean a business has gained visibility or improved commercial outcomes. AI-generated answers can vary with wording, context, geography, model updates and the underlying data collection method. Businesses should assess tracking consistency, source attribution, historical comparisons and the usefulness of reporting alongside cost.

BrandAxis says its new model is designed to make monitoring easier to scale up or down as client portfolios change. Whether it delivers meaningful savings will depend on each buyer’s actual prompt volume, desired models, reporting needs and the additional services included in competing products.

The launch reflects a broader shift in marketing software toward more granular consumption-based pricing. For agencies and brands expanding AI search measurement, the practical comparison is not simply the price of a tracker, but the cost of obtaining reliable, actionable data at the coverage level they need.

Market Landscape

AI visibility monitoring is becoming a distinct category within SEO and digital marketing as brands seek to understand their presence in AI-generated answers. Vendors differ in how they count prompts, models, responses, projects and tracking frequency, making direct pricing comparisons difficult.

BrandAxis is positioning configurable, per-prompt-per-model pricing as an alternative to fixed bundles. Its competitive case will depend on transparent billing, reliable data collection and whether agencies can achieve comparable monitoring coverage at lower total cost.

Top Insights

  • Usage-based model: BrandAxis charges by prompt and AI model, with volume discounts for larger tracking portfolios.
  • Agency-focused design: Separate workspaces and client-level billing aim to simplify cost allocation across multiple accounts.
  • Flexible coverage: Businesses can configure tracking according to brand priorities rather than applying one model selection to every client.
  • Competitor savings are estimates: BrandAxis’s comparisons depend on equivalent prompt volumes, model access and feature assumptions.
  • Pricing needs clarification: The press release’s $1 base fee conflicts with the public calculator’s displayed total for 75 trackers.
