Lenovo is taking IT sustainability up a notch with the launch of Lenovo Certified Refurbishment Services across 14 European markets. The new offering gives organizations the ability to refurbish existing Lenovo devices, extend their useful life, and redeploy them internally, combining cost savings, IT flexibility, and environmental responsibility.
For most businesses, device lifecycle strategies have been binary: extend warranties or buy new. Lenovo’s approach introduces a third option: refurbish. With OEM-certified refurbishment, renewed warranties, and fully tested performance, companies can avoid premature device retirements, maximize IT budgets, and reduce e-waste.
Smarter IT Refresh Cycles
Under pressure to cut costs and meet sustainability targets, IT leaders are looking for ways to get more from their existing hardware. Lenovo Certified Refurbishment Services allow devices to be upgraded with additional RAM or minor part replacements, keeping older devices reliable for everyday tasks while freeing new hardware for high-performance roles like AI PCs.
This flexible approach lets IT teams redeploy equipment after staff departures, fully sanitized and cosmetically refreshed, essentially creating “good-as-new” devices. The result: lower total cost of ownership, reduced procurement pressure, and a more agile, sustainable IT strategy.
Driving Sustainability and Circularity
With the EU Circular Economy Act and Green Deal shaping corporate IT policies, Lenovo’s service helps organizations align with circular economy principles. Research shows that extending device life by just 30% can reduce annual emissions by up to 20%. By refurbishing and reusing devices, businesses cut e-waste while maintaining productivity.
“Lenovo’s Certified Refurbishment Services support EU goals by reducing waste and increasing sustainability while keeping performance at peak levels,” said James Pennington, Director of Global Sustainability Services at Lenovo.
Enterprise-Grade Quality and Control
The service offers three refurbishment levels—from light refresh to full rebuild—managed via the Lenovo Service Connect Portal. Every device undergoes comprehensive testing, battery and component replacement as needed, and NIST-compliant data sanitization. Each refurbished unit comes with a renewed warranty and optional Premier Support, ensuring enterprise-grade reliability.
“Over 35 years of engineering experience has taught us how to create devices that are smarter, more sustainable, and built to last,” added John Stamer, VP and GM, GPS and Sustainability Services. “Certified Refurbishment Services give EMEA businesses confidence in performance, sustainability, and long-term IT value.”
With IT budgets tight and sustainability mandates rising, Lenovo’s new refurbishment program could reshape device lifecycle strategies across Europe—proving that green IT and cost efficiency don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
