IFA Berlin is no stranger to ambitious claims about the future of consumer tech. This year, Beko is making its case with a lineup of smart appliances that blend artificial intelligence, sustainability, and reliability into the humble washing machine and dryer.
The Turkish manufacturer, already a familiar name in European households, is pitching AI not as a gimmick but as a practical way to cut energy bills, extend appliance life, and—perhaps most importantly—make laundry less of a headache.
AI Meets Everyday Appliances
At the heart of Beko’s rollout is HomeWhiz, a connected platform that links appliances to smartphones. It’s not just about remote control; HomeWhiz promises actionable insights on water and power usage, over-the-air software updates, and predictive maintenance that can flag issues before they turn into breakdowns.
In other words, Beko is borrowing a page from Tesla’s playbook—keeping hardware current with continuous updates while nudging consumers toward greener, more cost-effective use.
Smarter Laundry: SenseWash, AdaptiveWash, and FabricCare
Beko’s Intelligent Laundry Care suite takes the spotlight. Washing machines with SenseWash technology use sensors to recognize fabric types and load sizes, automatically tweaking wash cycles for efficiency and gentler treatment. Models in the new A-60% energy class outperform EU standards by up to 60%, a notable brag in an industry under regulatory scrutiny for energy labeling.
Meanwhile, AdaptiveWash doesn’t stop at one-and-done cycles. By collecting user feedback after each wash, it refines programs over time—effectively learning household habits to deliver more personalized results. Add FabricCare™, a drum and paddle redesign that promises “twice as gentle” washing, and Beko makes a case for appliances that treat clothes like a high-end dry cleaner, not a spin cycle gladiator pit.
And then there’s EnergySpin, a tweak to drum movement that Beko claims can shave 35% off energy use across everyday programs, not just eco modes. That’s a meaningful edge in a market where rivals like LG and Samsung tout similar savings but often limit them to specialized cycles most users rarely select.
Quieter, Faster, and (According to Tests) Better Value
Dryers also get the AI treatment. The SilentDry series operates at 57–60 dBA—roughly the noise of a quiet conversation—while AdaptiveDry fine-tunes cycles based on user feedback. Independent tests by German consumer group Stiftung Warentest placed two Beko dryers in the top five for energy efficiency and speed, also crowning them “best value for money.”
That’s a not-so-subtle swipe at premium competitors, many of which command higher prices without necessarily delivering proportionally higher performance.
The Bigger Picture
Beko’s bet is clear: AI-enhanced efficiency and predictive smarts will become the baseline for next-gen appliances. With rivals like Whirlpool, Samsung, and LG already pushing similar integrations, differentiation may come down to execution, long-term reliability, and how well these AI-driven features actually adapt to daily life.
CMO Akın Garzanlı summed it up: “Innovation drives us forward, but reliability remains the foundation.” In an era when connected gadgets sometimes overpromise and underdeliver, that balance may be Beko’s best shot at standing out.
